NC Commerce Secretary Visits Person County Mega Park

On Monday afternoon, NC Commerce Secretary Machelle Sanders, Assistant Secretary of Rural Economic Development Kenny Flowers, and an entourage of fellow Commerce and Office of State Budget and Managment staff visited Person County for an update and tour of the Person County Mega Park. 

Person County Board of Commission Chairman Gordon Powell, EDC Chairman Phillip Allen, and City of Roxboro Mayor Merilyn Newell participated in the the visit along with EDC Ex Officios Brooks Lockhart, City Manager, and Dr. Rodney Peterson, Superintendent of Person County Schools. 

The group heard a presentation of the history and overview of the site, insights gleaned from heightened project activity, and continued development needs from ED Director Sherry Wilborn. 

Following the presentation, Wilborn,  Allen, and Assitant ED Director Mike Thibault took the group on a tour of the site. 

In 2018, NC Commerce awarded Person County a $1.6 million grant to construct a waterline to the site. Construction of the 12" waterline, capable of supplying up to 2.5 million gallons per day of water to the site, was completed in 2020.
