What is the Chamber of Commerce?

The Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce (RACC) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to lead, promote and support the local business environment in the global economy and improve the quality of life for the Roxboro and Person County community.

RACC serves and promotes small business, local industry and the positive economic growth of Roxboro and Person County as a whole through various programs and daily activities.  RACC is an independent organization that is not part of any local/state/national entities or government bodies.  It relies 100% on membership dues and fundraising activities to support itself.

For over eighty years, the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce has been a leader in the Person County business community.  Whether it’s a small business with only a handful of employees or a large manufacturing company employing several hundred people, the Chamber works to emphasize the critical role of EVERY organization in the economic health and diversity of Person County.

How is the Chamber organized?

All positions except that of President/CEO and office staff are elected.  The Board of Directors is comprised of eleven individuals elected by the general membership and seven non-voting Ex-Officios.  The Executive Board is elected by the Board of Directors and includes: Hunt Fitzgerald – Chairman, Ryan Johnson – Vice Chair, Tracy Harris – Secretary, Derrick Sims – Past Chairman, Alicia Puryear - President/CEO

Gift Check Program

Over 100 Chamber members accept ‘Chamber Gift Checks’.  Over $55,000 in Chamber Gift Checks were purchased in 2016, crucial dollars that stayed in Person County and fueled our local economy.   Chamber Gift Checks can be purchased in any amount and are valid for 6 months from the time of purchase.  They make wonderful gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, Christmas and many other occasions.

Small Business of the Year Award

Co-sponsored by the Chamber and the Piedmont Community College Business Development and Entrepreneurship Center, this prestigious award is presented at the Annual Banquet in January.  To be eligible for this award, a business must have been in business/under current ownership for a minimum of 3 years, have no more than 50 full time employees, be located in Person County, demonstrate excellence in offering products or services and be involved in / make contributions to the community.

Chamber Champion Award

Each year at the Annual Banquet, one member is recognized for their outstanding support and significant contribution to the success of the Chamber.

Alicia Puryear has served as the President/CEO for the Roxboro Area Chamber of Commerce since January 2014.  She credits her ‘former life’ as a Realtor/Builder Representative in new construction residential communities and active involvement with the home builders association as wonderful preparation for her role at the Chamber and its many activities in Person County.
